About Me

Making jewelry has always been close to my heart. I was only around 5 years old when I first
stumbled upon my mother’s stash of jewelry and I started making them since I was 8. Back
then, my very first designs were put together from bits and pieces of my mother’s jewelry
which I had sneakily cut up, obviously my mother wasn’t too pleased then.

The sheer delight of creating beautiful combinations of colors and materials was only
surpassed by the joy of seeing my mother actually wearing the pieces which I had made.
From then on, she kept the really expensive ones and only left the normal ones out for me
to unleash my talent on.

Challenging myself to design beautiful pieces to please my mother became a major source
of childhood happiness to which I ended up devoting most of my free time. Jewelry making
had taught me how to be committed to beauty, and the value of effort and enterprise in
creating the beauty we seek without compromise in everything that we do. My interest and
passion was further stoked up by my mother’s loving encouragement and support which
she has continued to provide without waver till this day. My mother’s kindness and beauty,
together with the uncanny grace which she seems to exude without effort, will always be
the inspiration behind each and every one of my designs.

Marilyn May Couture is henceforth named in her honor. She was the unwavering constant support and encouragement that all children needed their mother to be. She never failed to take time out to have a look at my creations, no matter how busy she was. The ones that I made for her over the years she always wore them with pride. I never got to thank her in person, because things will get awkward and we both will be so shy! :) But mummy if you are reading this, thank you for giving me this opportunity to work on my dream. I love you very much. And please less nagging, thank you! Haha!

I took jewelry making wherever I went, throughout my schooling years I would make
bracelets and necklaces as gifts for friends and family, relishing the glee of knowing that my
little creations are basking in the light of awe.

In 2005, I left for England to pursue my legal training and eventually qualified as a Barrister-
at-Law. During my time there making jewelry was my coping mechanism to deal with the
sheer loneliness and being thousands of miles away from home.

In the years that followed, jewelry making had been my constant companion and friend.
Representing the counterpoint to the stresses and pressures of private, and later on
commercial practice, bringing my life into harmony and enabling me to find joy on my own
terms, atop my own workbench, using my own two hands. And while jewelry making was
always an intimately personal hobby, I constantly fantasize about being a full time designer.

This blog marks the milestone of me taking the first step to realizing my lifelong dream on
being an exclusive jewelry designer.

I hope everyone enjoys the pieces as much as I enjoyed making them.

Much love,
